Mother doesn't have to keep a close eye on her little ones.
They are always together.
Riding in her pouch until they grow too large, then they hitch a ride on her back.
How to Know When to Rescue

                                     *Many babies are rescued
                                       from mother's pouch who
                                        have been hit by cars.

Use caution if you attempt this.

*If the opossum is injured or too weak to wiggle or hold his head up
he or she needs medical attention.

*If you find a youngster who is alone
but quiet and alert, he is probably fine
but check back in 4-6 hours
if he is gone or still quiet and alert
he is being taken care of.

*If the opossum is less than 6 inches long,
and is giving a distress cry,
                                    check back in 4-6 hours
                                     if he is still crying
he needs to be taken to a wildlife rehab center.
