Noggie White Nosed Coatimundi Noggie was a much loved pet at one time, but as he matured he became more aggressive and unpredictable. His owner called Broadbent and ask if he could have a home here at the Sanctuary. Nogs has lived here for 3 years now and during warm times of the year shares an outdoor habitat with a few raccoons. He enjoys them immensely! If you are wondering about his previous owner.... she still calls to check on him every few months.
Gentleman & Baby Rhesus Macaque Gentleman and Baby were taken from their abusive owners by the State of Kentucky and placed at Broadbent. When found, they were housed in an old outhouse with over a foot of compacted animal waste in the floor. They were terrified of people, especially if they were wearing boots or camouflage clothing. We hate to think of what they endured before coming to the Sanctuary. It makes you wonder how can people be so cruel?
Ostriches We have been given a small herd of Ostriches who were previously being raised for the meat industry. Many times when a business does not make enough profit on herd animals they are left with unneeded and unwanted livestock. These Ostriches have a permanent home at Broadbent. The staff finds them quite interesting and there eggs can be used to feed to the other animals.
Water Fowl Our Ducks and Geese have come to us for many different reasons. Some were victims of animal attacks, some were injured accidentally by sportsman's fishing line left behind or boats, and some were simply unwanted. They now have a safe place and a pond of their own.
