| *Caution* *All mammals can carry rabies! * Do not handle wildlife unless it is absolutely necessary. If you must, use heavy gloves and towels and be EXTREMELY CAREFUL. During transportation, remember that an unconscious animal may regain consciousness, be sure to secure the carrier or box and leave air holes. The animal's safety as well as your own could depend on this. |
| Temporary Care Instructions for All Animals: Do not give the animal any food or *water. Feeding an animal an incorrect diet can result in injury or death. *Please call & describe the condition of the animal, we will advise you if water is appropriate. Keep the animal warm. Place animal in a box or carrier appropriate for it's size. Provide bedding, paper towels, towels or hay are fine. Make sure the box has air holes in the lid. Keep the animal in a dark, quiet place. Leave the animal alone and keep children and pets away. A wild animal may feel that you are a predator instead of a rescuer. Call a wildlife rehabilitation center in your area.
