The birds on this page live at Broadbent for many reasons.

Some are Hurricane Katrina survivors.

Some have been displaced because their owner's circumstances
have changed, (children or a new spouse have come along,
an owner dies, relocation ) all these changes can  mean that the
bird no longer gets the attention that he or she requires, this can
lead to bad behavior and health problems,
and ultimately an unwanted & neglected bird.

Others were labeled "bad birds" by shop owners because they
have a deformity or were not easily tamed,  many shop owners see
this as a liability & discard the birds.

Many of the birds on this page came out of abusive situations,
being verbally and/or physically abused
and some forced to live in unsanitary conditions.

Please  research the species
before purchasing or taking over the care of any tropical bird,
figure out if you can and if you are willing to
supply the proper housing, food and attention that the bird
deserves, remembering that some tropical birds live to be
20, 40 or even 100 years of age.
