Kosmo the Coopers Hawk
   On March 17, 2010 Tracy Carter, Broadbent's Executive Director, received a call from
Kosmos Cemex.  Two of the plant's workers, had found an injured raptor.  A volunteer wildlife
rehabilitator, had just left for Lexington, to pick up a raccoon, some baby squirrels and a
goose, for Broadbent.  Tracy called and ask if she could pick up the bird, luckily she was only
10 minutes away.  Upon arrival there were several people in the parking lot waving.   The two
rescuers Kerry and Ernie, and Shannon Graves, Environmental Manager for CEMEX  Kosmos
Cement Co.  The Coopers Hawk was transferred into a carrier and brought back to Broadbent
for care.
   Upon arrival, the bird was examined, weighed, given Lactated Ringers, pain medication and
antibiotics. Later in the day, Dr. Mike OBryan  assisted by Franky Carter anesthetized the bird
and took x-rays which revealed a fracture of the right Humerus.
